How to Practice Good Foot Hygiene
Practicing good foot hygiene might sound like a no-brainer. However, this is no easy task as you have to wash your clean daily, and sometimes, several times a day. Follow these simple tips to make sure that your feet are clean and healthy.
Change Your Socks Regularly
If your feet sweat a lot or if you train often, you want to change your socks several times a day. Socks may get torn or house bacteria, with both of them being possible causes of injuries and foot diseases. With that said, consider using socks that wick away moisture or those with special pads.
Use Gentle Soap
You may have noticed that people wash with soap to kill and keep away germs. By the same token, make sure that you use soap to clean your feet. But the soap should be gentle enough not to irritate.
Clean Between Your Fingers
For athletes and other people who wear shoes for long periods, fungus and bacteria tend to build up between your fingers. You want to make sure that all these disease-causing organisms are killed and washed away. So, use a soft cloth to clean between your feet’s fingers. Running water is the best when washing feet.
Never Wear Wet Shoes
Germs love and tend to live in wet places. What a better place to make a home and reproduce than in wet shoes? With that said, always ensure that your shoes are dry before wearing them. Consider wash your shoes and insoles and dry them separately. On another note, no one wants smelly shoes, and you’re no different.
Use More Than One Trainer
You might need more at least two trainers to practice good foot hygiene. And change between them (remember to wash them as mentioned above). Also, change your liners often, and dispose of them if necessary. Like wet shoes, liners may cause smelly feet if good hygiene is not kept.
